The Conflict, Security and Development Group (CSDG) at King’s College London together with the Africa Leadership Centre (ALC), is pleased to announce a call for applications for the Peace and Security Fellowships for African Women for 2009/2010. These Fellowships are intellectual and financial awards for personal, professional and academic achievements, as well as the recognition of future potential. From October 2009, the Peace and Security Fellowships for African Women will be delivered by CSDG and the ALC, which is a partnership of King’s College London and Kenyatta University, Nairobi.
The ALC aims to build a new community of leaders generating cutting edge knowledge on peace, security and development.

A graduate research assistantship is available in the School of Biology and Ecology at the University of Maine for a student interested in watershed biogeochemistry. The successful applicant will be involved in a NSF-funded project that examines how nitrogen and acid deposition change biogeochemical pathways in coupled terrestrial-stream systems. The student will be based at U. Maine, but will collaborate extensively with stream and terrestrial ecologists, soil scientists, and geochemists at the University of Maine, Virginia Tech, and the U.S. Forest Service. Field work will be conducted at forested LTREB sites in Maine and West Virginia.
Ph.D. students are preferred, but M.S. students may apply. The assistantship includes a stipend, tuition, and health insurance.

Recipients of the Google Lime Scholarship will receive a scholarship for the 2009–2010 academic year. The purpose of the IPRS and the UWA SIRF scheme is to attract top quality international postgraduate students to areas in which the University has specialised research strengths and to support Australia’s research effort. Successful applicants can expect to become members of a research team working under the direction of senior researchers and in an area which has attracted external resources.
Applications for international postgraduate research scholarships at UWA are rated according to the following criteria: (a) Academic achievement; (b) English language achievement; (c) Research training achievement; and (d) Proposed research environment. Allocation of scholarships is the outcome of a competitive ranking and selection process in which applications are scored and ranked by Schools, Faculties and the University Scholarships Committee, according to these common criteria and on the basis of evidence provided.
