The Scholarships are offered in over 130 countries. They enable talented graduates and young professionals whom we identify as the potential leaders of tomorrow to develop strong links with the UK and with each other in a global network, at the same time as becoming familiar with the UK.

The Chevening programme provides around 1,000 new scholarships each year for postgraduate studies or research at UK Institutions of Higher Education. In addition to that we provide over 200 Fellowship places.

Information: The aim of the award is to bring to the UK present and future leaders and decision-makers. Awards are presented annually and candidates are selected overseas by British Embassies and High Commissions in consultation with the local British Council. They are usually advertised locally in those countries where the awards are offered. For further details contact the British Council, British Embassy or British High Commission in your own country. Awards are usually made for:

* Postgraduate diplomas
* Masters programmes

which last up to one year.

Value: All or part of overall costs.

Eligibility: Most Scholarships are for one year Masters courses or equivalent. Shared funding scholarship arrangements with commercial companies, universities, trusts, foundations and other appropriate organisations are an important part of the programme. These scholarships are offered to more than 150 countries for students to study in the UK. The British Council on behalf of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office administers candidates for British Chevening Scholarships.
