Job Description : Applications are invited for a JRF position in a Department of Biotechnology, (DBT) , Govt. of India, funded project to work on research proposal entitled “Chemical modification of some metal ion binding peptides with photoactive molecules, and investigation on their photoinduced DNA damage and photoenhanced antimicrobial activity” of Dr. Halan Prakash, Chemistry Group, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Goa Campus, Zuarinagar, GOA, 403 276.

Essential Qualification: M.Sc. in Chemical Science/ Life Science or M.Tech (Biotech) with good academic records (Ist division). Candidates with NET (JRF/Lect) / GATE will be preferred.

Job Description and Desirable Qualification: Strong desire to work on Synthesis of photo-active molecules, peptide design, chemical modification of peptides. The works requires extensive use of HPLC for purification of modified peptides. Knowledge on HPLC, GC, routine molecular biology techniques including cloning and expression of proteins, and antimicrobial studies would be an advantage.

Emoluments: Rs.12, 000/- pm + HRA

Project Duration: Three years.

Selected candidates will be called for interview at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Goa Campus, Goa. No TA/DA will be paid for this purpose. The above position is purely temporary and will be made on contractual basis for a period of one year at a time till termination of the project. The selected candidates shall not have any claim for continuation as regular appointments with the Institute.

Students who have completed their SPM/O-Level, STPM/A-Level/Foundation Year/Diploma or currently in their final semester of Matriculation studies or in the University (IPTA/IPTS) who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for the Shell Malaysia Scholarship Awards:

  • Excellent academic achievement with emphasis in English
  • Demonstration of leadership skills through active participation in extra-curricular activities. e.g. societies and clubs, sports, etc.
  • Strong academic record and realistic expectation of a high CGPA or its equivalent

Masters and PhD programs The MASDAR Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi

The MASDAR Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi is pleased to announce full scholarships to highly qualified graduate students from around the world for its Fall 2010 intake.

The MASDAR Institute is the centerpiece of the MASDAR Initiative, a landmark program by the government of Abu Dhabi to establish an entirely new economic sector dedicated to alternative and sustainable energy. The MASDAR Institute is a private, not-for-profit, independent, research-driven institute developed with the support and cooperation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

MIT provides assistance in recruitment of faculty members and senior administrative staff and the provision of course curriculum, amongst other matters. The Institute is located inside the world’s first carbon neutral, zero waste Masdar City which will be powered solely by alternative energy, mainly solar energy.

The Institute offers Masters and (in 2011) PhD programs in science and engineering disciplines, with a focus on advanced energy and sustainable technologies. Scholarship Value

Stipend of Euro 1000.00 per month

  • A lump sum towards air fare from India to Germany and back

Requirements and Conditions

  • Please check the individual offer for information on requirements and host institutions
  • German language skills are not mandatory
  • In general, candidates should be residing in India at the time of application. Candidates, who have been in Germany for more than one year at the time of application, are not eligible to apply.

Master scholarships for Taiwanese Talent

VU Graduate School of Economics and Business / Holland Scholarship Programme

VU Graduate School of Economics and Business is offering Taiwanese candidates the unique opportunity to win a scholarship to cover part of the tuition fee for taking part in one of our highly renowned master programmes.

Five scholarships will be awarded for this program in the academic year 2010/2011. The Scholarship is administered in Taiwan by the Netherlands Trade & Investment Office (NTIO) and will be open to high potential candidates from Taiwan who are interested in pursuing a world class graduate education in the fields of Marketing, Business Administration, (Quantitatitive) Finance, Econometrics and Operations Research, Economics, Spatial and Environmental Economics and Accounting and Control. Five scholarships valued at € 5,000 each are offered for outstanding candidates of only Taiwanese nationality. The winner is responsible for all other expenses incurred during his/her study at VU University Amsterdam (e.g. housing, course materials and living expenses). Criteria of Eligibility

  • Only applicants with at least a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Taiwanese university
  • Candidates must be citizens of Taiwan and be normally resident in Taiwan.
  • The general criteria for selection are excellence, motivation and extracurricular activities

  • Do not obtain any funding/scholarship from other organizations/institutes in the academic year 2010/2011
  • Be fluent in English and have a more than satisfactory score in an English proficiency test as IELTS or TOEFL. This requirement is often underestimated. Do train the English language during the preparation year!
  • Cumulative Grade Point Average (or GPA) of at least 80

  • you are from one of the ASEAN member countries – Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam
  • you are classed as an overseas student for fee purposes
  • already hold an offer to start a full-time Masters degree programme (including MRes) at Nottingham in 2010 – any subject area (excluding MBA)

Singapore Academy of Law Postgraduate Scholarships – NYU@NUS Dual Graduate Degree Programme in Singapore 2010/2011

Scholarship Introduction:
The Singapore Academy of Law is offering scholarships for postgraduate studies in law for the NYU@NUS Dual Graduate Degree Programme in Singapore. This programme will allow SAL scholarship awardees to experience two educational systems and earn a Masters of Law (LLM) from both the National University of Singapore (NUS) and New York University (NYU).

Eligibility for Scholarship:
• be members of the Singapore Academy of Law;
• be below 40 years of age as at 1 Jan 2009;
• possess at least a Second Upper honours degree in Law; and
• at the time of the award, not have been awarded any other scholarship for the course for which this application is made.

M.A. / M.Sc. Mathematics Scholarships in India For The Academic Year 2009-2010

The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) invites applications for the grant of scholarships to students for pursuing studies for M.A. / M.Sc. degree in mathematics.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be motivated B. A. / B. Sc. first class degree holders, or students, who have appeared for B. A. / B. Sc. final year examination and expect a bachelors degree with first class, or B.Sc. (honours) degree holders with at least second class, or students who have appeared for B.Sc. (honours) final year examination and expect a B. Sc. (honours) degree with at least second class. Students who have completed three years of an integrated M. Sc. course with cumulative grades equivalent to first class are eligible to apply. Students with good academic record and who are in M.Sc. (Part-I) or in the fifth year of a 5 year integrated M.Sc. course are also eligible to apply.

Applicants should be below the age of 23 years as on January 1, 2009.Exceptional cases, however, may be considered on merit.

The Scholarship:
Successful candidates will be eligible to receive a scholarship of Rs. 6,000/- (Rs. six thousand only) per month, during their two-year (one year if the student is granted the scholarship during the second year) M.A. / M. Sc. programme. The scholarships are sanctioned for one year at a time and are renewable at the end of the year, subject to satisfactory progress. Students who are in M.Sc. (Part-I) or in the fifth year of a 5 year integrated M.Sc. course will get the scholarship only for one year.

To avail of the scholarship the students have to be enrolled in an appropriate institution, in India, for an M.A. / M.Sc. degree in Mathematics. The scholarship will be paid through the institution they join.

Selection Procedure: Selection will be made on the basis of a written test followed by interview of short-listed candidates. The written test will be held on
Saturday, September 19, 2009. The questions will be primarily in the areas of Algebra, Analysis and Geometry. The test will be for two and half hours and involve questions with short answers. MSc Scholarships in Geospatial Technologies at University of Muenster

With the support of the North-Rhine-Westphalian Ministry for Innovation, Science, Research and Technology (MIWFT), the Institute for Geoinformatics offers
1. Five scholarships for the MSc program in Geoinformatics (4 semesters, start October 1, 2009)
2. PhD Scholarship from Microsoft

The PhD Scholarship Programme recognises and supports exceptional students who show the potential to make an outstanding contribution to science and computing. This programme supports PhD students in computing and those working at the intersection of computing and the sciences.

Application deadline: 16 September 2009
Applications must be complete and received by the announced deadline to be considered. Proposals received after this deadline will not be considered.
Notification of results: December 2009

Eligibility Criteria

  • Only PhD supervisors should apply. If their project is selected, the supervisor has up to a year to find the best possible student for the project. Joint applications by two supervisors from different disciplines are especially encouraged.
  • We usually consider only one application per university department or per laboratory of a national research institution.
  • Only applications from countries in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East will be considered. Some additional criteria apply in some of these countries. See Country-Specific Application Guidelines at the website given below
  • Only applications in research areas relatively close to the ones researchers at Microsoft Research in Cambridge focus on will be considered. These areas are:
