<p>Description</p>
<p>The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is recruiting PhD students to start in Fall 2010. To find out more about us, please visit our CSE website at:</p>

<p>Our department consists of outstanding faculty members and graduate students with over 40 faculty members and over 100 PhD students. Our medium of teaching and research is English. Besides having a strong publication track record, our faculty and students are among the first to develop advanced and popular P2P systems, industry standards on RFID and sensor networks, computer graphics and vision systems, large-scale data mining and machine learning systems for Web search, GPU and parallel computing for database query processing, to name a few. After getting their PhDs, our students find jobs in worldwide research labs such as Microsoft Research, Google, IBM and top universities in Canada, Australia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. A student who has a master’s degree is expected to graduate with a PhD in 3 years, and an undergraduate degree to graduate in 4 years.</p>
<p>Starting in 2010, we are particularly happy to offer the prestigious Hong Kong PHD Fellowship of HK$20,000 (~USD 2,580) per month, plus a travel allowance of HK$10,000 (~USD 1,290) for three years.</p>
<p>Requirements</p>
<ul>
<li> We are looking for outstanding undergraduate students as well as outstanding graduate students with master’s degree with some research experience. .</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li> We are looking for postgraduate students in all areas in computer science and related areas, including but not limited to, artificial intelligence, data and knowledge management, networks and networking systems, software technologies, theoretical computer science and vision and graphics.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li> We also encourage students interested in multi-disciplinary areas such as bioinformatics, risk management and business intelligence and computational finance</li>
<li>Exceptionally qualified PhD applicants (top 10% in class, &gt;85% GPA, excellent English command) are welcome to contact potential faculty supervisors and apply by Dec 1, 2009. This fellowship award is offered centrally by University Grant Council of Hong Kong.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>We also offer a large number of postgraduate research studentship awards at HK$156,000 per year (~USD 20,000/year) . Our admission requirement for English is one of recent TOEFL(cbt)&gt;= 580, IELTS&gt;=7, or TOEFL(ibt)&gt;= 92 by the time you enter HKUST.</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>According to the Interim Regulations of Shanghai Government Scholarship for International Students (hereafter referred to as the Scholarship), this detailed implementation for international students in ECUST has hereby been set forth.The scholarship is divided into Type A and B</p>
<p>Type A, as a full scholarship, covers tuition, basic learning material, accommodation; it provides insurance for major diseases and accidents; living allowance is offered monthly: 1700 RMB for master student and 2000 RMB for PHD student. It is awarded to applicants for masters and above. The numbers to be awarded is 10 each year.</p>
<p>Type B is semi-scholarship, including tuition, basic learning material and accommodation.</p>
<p>It will be awarded to applicants for masters and above. The numbers to be awarded is 6 each year.</p>
<p><strong>Requirements</strong><span id="more-73"></span></p>
<ul>
<li>Citizens with foreign nationalities and in good health;</li>
<li>Abide by the Chinese government’s laws, rules and regulations and school regulatory framework;</li>
<li>Study earnestly with good results;</li>
<li>Applicants for the Doctorate program must already have a Master’s degree and be less than 40 years old;</li>
<li>Applicants for a Masters Degree must already have a Bachelors degree and be less than 35 years old;</li>
<li>Students shall not receive other scholarships offered by Chinese government during the same period.</li>

<p>Applications are invited for the James Henry Scott Scholarship, starting in September 2009 (the academic year 2009/10).</p>
<p>The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. The scholarship is open to candidates who satisfy the following conditions:</p>
<ul>
<li>Students must be commencing a one-year Master of Science degree (MSc) in Environmental Science at the University of Aberdeen in September 2009.</li>
<li>Students must be from the People’s Republic of China, or Hong Kong</li>
</ul>
<p>The scholarship will cover:<span id="more-23"></span></p>
<ul>
<li>Full International Postgraduate Tuition Fees for the 2009/10 academic year of £11,500</li>
<li>A maintenance award of £12,940. The recipient of The James Henry Scott Scholarship shall also receive one economy airfare from their place of residence to the University of Aberdeen – this is to be arranged directly between the scholarship recipient and the Swire Educational Trust</li>
</ul>
