Job Description : Applications are invited for a JRF position in a Department of Biotechnology, (DBT) , Govt. of India, funded project to work on research proposal entitled “Chemical modification of some metal ion binding peptides with photoactive molecules, and investigation on their photoinduced DNA damage and photoenhanced antimicrobial activity” of Dr. Halan Prakash, Chemistry Group, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Goa Campus, Zuarinagar, GOA, 403 276.

Essential Qualification: M.Sc. in Chemical Science/ Life Science or M.Tech (Biotech) with good academic records (Ist division). Candidates with NET (JRF/Lect) / GATE will be preferred.

Job Description and Desirable Qualification: Strong desire to work on Synthesis of photo-active molecules, peptide design, chemical modification of peptides. The works requires extensive use of HPLC for purification of modified peptides. Knowledge on HPLC, GC, routine molecular biology techniques including cloning and expression of proteins, and antimicrobial studies would be an advantage.

Emoluments: Rs.12, 000/- pm + HRA

Project Duration: Three years.

Selected candidates will be called for interview at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Goa Campus, Goa. No TA/DA will be paid for this purpose. The above position is purely temporary and will be made on contractual basis for a period of one year at a time till termination of the project. The selected candidates shall not have any claim for continuation as regular appointments with the Institute.

Requirements and Conditions

  • Please check the individual offer for information on requirements and host institutions
  • German language skills are not mandatory
  • In general, candidates should be residing in India at the time of application. Candidates, who have been in Germany for more than one year at the time of application, are not eligible to apply.

M.A. / M.Sc. Mathematics Scholarships in India For The Academic Year 2009-2010

The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) invites applications for the grant of scholarships to students for pursuing studies for M.A. / M.Sc. degree in mathematics.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be motivated B. A. / B. Sc. first class degree holders, or students, who have appeared for B. A. / B. Sc. final year examination and expect a bachelors degree with first class, or B.Sc. (honours) degree holders with at least second class, or students who have appeared for B.Sc. (honours) final year examination and expect a B. Sc. (honours) degree with at least second class. Students who have completed three years of an integrated M. Sc. course with cumulative grades equivalent to first class are eligible to apply. Students with good academic record and who are in M.Sc. (Part-I) or in the fifth year of a 5 year integrated M.Sc. course are also eligible to apply.

Applicants should be below the age of 23 years as on January 1, 2009.Exceptional cases, however, may be considered on merit.

The Scholarship:
Successful candidates will be eligible to receive a scholarship of Rs. 6,000/- (Rs. six thousand only) per month, during their two-year (one year if the student is granted the scholarship during the second year) M.A. / M. Sc. programme. The scholarships are sanctioned for one year at a time and are renewable at the end of the year, subject to satisfactory progress. Students who are in M.Sc. (Part-I) or in the fifth year of a 5 year integrated M.Sc. course will get the scholarship only for one year.

To avail of the scholarship the students have to be enrolled in an appropriate institution, in India, for an M.A. / M.Sc. degree in Mathematics. The scholarship will be paid through the institution they join.

Selection Procedure: Selection will be made on the basis of a written test followed by interview of short-listed candidates. The written test will be held on
Saturday, September 19, 2009. The questions will be primarily in the areas of Algebra, Analysis and Geometry. The test will be for two and half hours and involve questions with short answers. UWA India Scholarships

The University of Western Australia will offer fifty-percent (50%) fee waiver scholarships to Indian higher degree by research students for commencement in 2010.

Eligible Indian applicants, who can commit to paying fifty-percent (50%) of their full tuition fees to undertake a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) at The University of Western Australia, may apply for an India SIRF Scholarship. This scholarship will cover fifty-percent (50%) of all tuition fees for up to 4 years, as well as Overseas Student Health Cover, and provide a full living allowance scholarship.
