The University of Western Australia will offer fifty-percent (50%) fee waiver scholarships to Indian higher degree by research students for commencement in 2010.

Eligible Indian applicants, who can commit to paying fifty-percent (50%) of their full tuition fees to undertake a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) at The University of Western Australia, may apply for an India SIRF Scholarship. This scholarship will cover fifty-percent (50%) of all tuition fees for up to 4 years, as well as Overseas Student Health Cover, and provide a full living allowance scholarship.

The current international student tuition fee scale can be found at http://www.studyat.uwa.edu.au/postgrad/international/fees.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to apply for an India Scholarship for International Research Fees (Indian SIRF), applicants must:

be citizens of India;

be able to commit to funding personally or have a commitment from a recognised sponsor fifty percent (50%) of the full tuition fees for up to 4 years;

demonstrate English language proficiency to an acceptable standard (see http://www.studyat.uwa.edu.au/postgrad/doctorates/admission/english for more information)

have completed a relevant undergraduate degree requiring at least four years of study with First Class Honours, or the equivalent

be prepared to enrol as a full-time candidate for a higher degree by research

Tenure of Scholarships

The duration of the scholarships is up to two years for Masters courses and up to four years for PhD courses. In order to be offered an India SIRF, applicants must have guaranteed funding for fifty percent (50%) of the their tuition fees for the full four-year duration of their candidature.
Living Allowance support

Successful India SIRF applicants will be provided with a full living allowance scholarship. Living allowances are payments made to students while they are studying to cover living expenses. Scholarship students are only permitted to work limited hours and must enrol full-time so it is extremely important that students have a source of funds on which to live while they carry out their studies. In 2009, the living allowance scholarship will be $25,427 per annum tax-free.
Application Process and Time Scale

Applications open on 1 June 2009, and close on 14 August 2009. These scholarships will be for study commencing in 2010.

If you meet all admission requirements and are selected to receive a half-tuition fee scholarship from The University of Western Australia (UWA), then you will receive an offer letter.

Successful applicants will normally be expected to start their PhD study program at UWA within 12 months of the scholarship being awarded.

Application Instructions

Applications for Indian SIRFs are by online form.
